Why update the profile picture after Takeout?

Most people use Google Takeout before a reset: cleaning storage, archiving old mail, preparing a business inbox, or making a new workflow. That is the right moment to check whether the account still looks trustworthy from the recipient side.

The sender image is small, but it appears in a high-attention place: next to your name in the inbox. A clear icon can help a customer, prospect, or teammate recognize the account faster.

Choose the right sender image

  • For a founder inbox, use a readable face, initials mark, or simple personal logo.
  • For support, use a friendly icon that still looks official at tiny size.
  • For sales or customer success, use a consistent brand mark across related accounts.
  • For Google Workspace teams, keep crops, backgrounds, and contrast consistent.
  • If animation is used, keep it subtle enough to work as a static first frame.

Check it like a recipient

  1. Send a real email to another account after changing the picture.
  2. Check desktop Gmail, mobile Gmail, and any Workspace account your customers use.
  3. Make sure the first frame works if the animation does not play.
  4. Keep the old static profile picture saved as a fallback.
